About Time Dozen

Time Dozen is a free reference for the current local time in countries, regions and cities, and for the time zones that connect them.

What the site does

It answers three questions quickly: what time is it there, what is the difference between two places, and when does the clock change next. Pages are plain and fast, and the clocks are rendered on the server so the time is visible immediately.

Data sources

  • GeoNames for place names, coordinates and population (CC BY 4.0).
  • The IANA time zone database for offsets and daylight saving rules.
  • Wikipedia (CC BY-SA) for the This day in history page.

How times are calculated

The server computes the time of each place from the IANA rules through a maintained tzdb package, and sunrise and sunset with the suncalc library from the place's coordinates. The browser then keeps the clock running.
