Frequently asked questions

Short answers about how Time Dozen works. Cannot find yours? See the contact page.

How accurate is the time shown?

Clocks start from the server time sent with the page and then keep running in your browser, so they are normally within a second of true time. The offset of each place comes from the IANA time zone database, not from a hand-kept list.

Where does the data come from?

Place names, coordinates and population come from GeoNames (CC BY 4.0). Time zone rules come from the IANA time zone database. Sunrise and sunset are calculated from each place's coordinates.

How do you handle daylight saving time (DST)?

Each place follows the DST rules of its IANA time zone, including past and announced future changes. Pages show whether DST is active now and the date of the next change when there is one.

Why does the site know where I am?

Your approximate location is read from your IP address by our network provider during the request, only to show the right local time. It is not stored with your identity, and you can always search for any other place.

Can I switch between 12-hour and 24-hour time?

Yes. Use the clock format option on a page; your choice is kept in your browser's local storage on your device only and applied on your next visit.

Is there a dark theme?

Yes. The site follows your system light or dark setting, and the theme button in the header lets you override it. The choice is remembered in local storage.

Can I embed a clock on my own website?

Embeddable clock widgets are planned for the widgets page. Until it is live, please link to the page of the place you want and do not copy our data in bulk.

How does search work?

Type a city, country, time zone code such as EST or IST, or a tool name in the search box. Suggestions appear as you type, and pressing Enter opens the full results page.

Which languages are available?

English, Vietnamese and Thai are live. Use the language menu in the header to switch; place names are translated where a translation exists.

How can I contact you or report a wrong time?

Write to the email address on the contact page. Please include the page address and the time you expected, so we can check the underlying time zone data.
