How it is calculated

For each day the calculator subtracts clock-in from clock-out, then subtracts the unpaid break. The week total is the sum of all days. Hours above the weekly limit (40 by default) are shown as overtime. Results are given as h:mm and as decimal hours for payroll, where 8:30 is 8.5 hours.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate hours worked in a day?

Subtract the start time from the end time and then subtract the unpaid break. From 9:00 to 17:30 with a 30-minute break is 8 hours 30 minutes minus 30 minutes, which is 8 hours.

How do I convert hours and minutes to decimal hours for payroll?

Divide the minutes by 60 and add them to the hours. 37 hours 45 minutes is 37.75 hours. Multiply decimal hours by the hourly rate to get the pay.

How is overtime calculated here?

Overtime is the part of the weekly total above the limit you set, 40 hours by default. Daily overtime rules and higher pay rates differ by country and employer and are not applied.

Can I enter a night shift that ends after midnight?

Yes. If the clock-out time is earlier than the clock-in time, the shift is treated as ending the next day, so 22:00 to 06:00 is 8 hours.
